Poem -

I know my own worth

I know my own worth

If there is a god in the heavens above
Why doesn’t he show, his children some love?
Why doesn’t he hear and answer our prayers ?
If there’s a  god he seems not to care
Why doesn’t he cure terminal illness?
Or the cancers that eat us away
So we can live on extend our lives
Maybe see the rest of our days out
With our children and wives

Why doesn’t he intervene in wars?
I’ll tell you why because we are god’s toys
We’re his pawns  with which he moves at will
But he doesn’t provide the clothes on my back
Or the money to buy that odd snack
Or the house I live in or the car that I drive
I provide that with hard work and graft
Is there a god?
To me that’s sounds daft

Where is he when we need him the most?
When we’re at our lowest and we look for his guidance
To me he’s like Poseidon, minus his trident
We ask his forgiveness when we do wrong
And give praise to him in the form of  song
Which I see as very wrong

For me  it should be the other way round
he should say sorry for letting us down
And yes some of you might frown
But ask yourself this
If there is a god is he taking the piss?
The famine, the wars the weak and the old
I have a theory if I may be so bold

He left us here to find our own way
Maybe he still watches over us day after day
Maybe he refuses to right what is wrong
Maybe he doesn’t like the tune of his song
Or maybe he’s just given up on humanity
Do you think that is wrong?

If there’s god I say show yourself
Stop hiding and prove you are real
For a lot of people seeing would be for real
Or are you a myth told from the bible
Or maybe your just bone idol

I see you lift no finger
And I don’t see your face
Who’s really responsible for the human race?
Guess that’s something we will never know
Unless you prove your worth
And take responsibility for all that’s cursed
On this so called god given earth
I look to no one , I know my own worth

There is no heaven
No pearly gates await
We die and lie in the ground
This is our fate
How many of your prayers
Have been answered of late?

Hi  Jeff This somehow comes across as a rant
at god,I am not religious I don`t go to church
but i believe in god I respect everyone`s views
Yes there is suffering yes there is sadness there is
a lot to say if there is a god why doesn`t he stop it
My view is he made us in his own image
But it was up to us individually as people
to make our own fate our own destiny
he gave us minds to Think for ourselves
most of the destruction, Chaos is down to us not god in my view
So many of my own family have died of cancer and it was horrible and sad
but if people did`nt die, of cancer or any other disease there
would be over population the world would be in  dire straits with no death
As for afterlife I respect other peoples views
but surly if earth is so bad so hard so so sad
why would`nt anyone want to think or believe
there is an afterlife with god  that would be beautiful peaceful and happy
and we would meet again the people we have lost and loved
Just my thoughts my friend:-)
I respect you for writing your thoughts on god  if they are your thoughts and beliefs
you posed a thought provoking write
Best wishes Debs

Ps I will catch up on Ben tomorrow to read it right through :-)

Hi Debs, yes i agree with some of your views. but ask yourself this. i have read the bible myself and found it to be a insightful read but how do we know what is written is true. there is no solid proof. the person that wrote it is long dead and gone so we cannot ask him for any insights. i see god in the same image as santa clause he's a metaphor.  we all need someone to look up to, his image is like a placebo we are told he resides in heaven and surrounded with angels and that insights thoughts in our heads. it makes us less afraid to die thinking their is something afterwards. i hope there is yet i highly doubt it. as a child i was brought up to believe in god i went to church and sunday school however as the years passed by and my life played out none of my prayers were answered. then i started to look at life more closely and my perception of god changed. god didn't help me at all i helped myself. i am where i am today because of my own actions not because some almighty entity intervened. my view is the good that we do in this world is derives from god and the bad the wars and the suffering derives from the devil. i know my poem will throw a cat amongst the pigeons and i understand everybody has their right to their own opinions and this is mine lol. thanks for reading Ben your support is much appreciated.

Haha  jeff We could go on and on.
The history is to me not so black and white to many
factors to consider to many strange happenings
I guess I am the type of person who does not have to see
to believe I just feel it. If your not that way inclined you
will not believe, did you think maybe  you are where you are today because
god was good to you. I dont believe there is a devil I dont believe in hell
I believe we make our own hell on earth with despots creating wars not the devil
they have their own minds after all
I will leave it there but I would love to have a full on debate with you :-)
No matter your beliefs Jeff  I respect your opinions even if I don`t agree
Cheers Debs

Hello Jeff...

All these questions can be answered simply admitting that is a Babe in Christ mentality...

You mention Him in small letters for example...

 He's not a genie for Pete's sake...

He's not going to grant your every wish...

Maybe,  you should read more miracle stories and it doesn't sound as though you have enough faith of a mustard seed...

The reason I say these things is because I was you...

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs...

P.S. I read Ben...

Great story!

I won't be a story spoiler for anyone who hasn't had a chance to read it yet...

Hey JEFF!!...... sorry I haven't got to BEN yet....... but I will.........I like that you had the balls to put this write "out there"!!...... I'm no big fan of the BIBLE...... although I am studying "The Book Of Enoch" right now....... for personal reasons....... however I have been traveling the world in search of proofs of God's existence....... there is no doubt in my mind...... with the amazing things I've experienced with American Indian tribal leaders...... metaphysical experiences I've had in some of the South American pyramids and ruins .....as well as Egyptian power places and others around the globe...... and also my study of physics.......that there IS a creator of all things...... some of my out of body experiences while pronounced dead also solidified my immovable faith in the creator ......call it "GOD"....... call it "JA".......use your own cultural experiences for terminology..... but for me....... this life is full of the beauty of the creator..... and I choose to call it GOD for lack of a better word!!....... but the fact that you wrote this makes me proud to know that people like you exist....... makes the beauty of the world all the better!!.......thanx so much for being you brother poet.......a VERY compelling read!!.......ALL STARS!!.......LOVE and ROCKETS!!........T xo.  ?

Hi Tony, thanks for the feedback, i have another theory but this one is way out there lol.

we call visitors to our planet aliens, (keep an open mind lol) WHAT! if we are the aliens. what if our world is just an experiment or livestock. thousands of people go missing every year and are never found people claim to be abducted and impregnated. maybe God is not one entity but a whole planet of a more intelligent race than ours. how did the Egyptians manage to build those pyramids? i believe yes there are places of power scattered on our earth. but where did those places of power originate from?

so many questions, so little answers.

Hi Jeff.....I believe in God and I love Him, I read the Bible and go to Church...It's a free world...Choose what you believe in...I just hope you'd have an encounter with Him one day...until then....I must comment your boldness in writing this....I hope to read an opposite of this one day.

I'm still on BEN...Taking my time...would give you feedback when I'm done

Cheers

Hi, Rose, we all have our own beliefs and i respect yours. you never know one day i might change my views but i doubt it unless i have a personal experience that makes me doubt my original thoughts

i appreciate the support with BEN

I respect your believe too...Imagine a world where everybody believes in God, reads the Bible and go to Church on Sunday....It sounds absurd and I think it would be boring as hell....I felt it in your poem...that it's your experience that makes you believe in what you do now....I hope another experience change your thoughts again....You never can tell!

Cheers
