Poem -

i stayed in the tears

i stayed in the tears

I stayed in the tears of my water a long time
And when I was ragged and pruney
I began the walk upstairs
Where you count as you climb

I listened
But my head was filled
With old songs of the Greatful Dead
Take my heavy body
And move to the shore

I don’t need to stay in the water anymore

I stayed in the dirt a long time
And dig and dug
For what went missing
My fingernails could use a scrub
And what I track across the clean floor
I don’t need to stay in my dirt anymore

I stayed a long time in the waiting room
Planning the future
Regretting the past
And looked at the walls
Which were unpainted

I am still there sometimes
But occasionally I make marks on the walls
In the feathering gloom
And there is laughter in the halls

Someone said we would have
Sunrise for supper
