Too Beautiful to Regret
Last night I slept hard but I slept inside a dream
We revolve around the endless ballroom
Outside a leaden sky
We dance , the monster and I
All the candles in their sconces
The wax is dripping down
The musicians play in darkness
Otherwise there is no sound
I waltz in grace with the beast
My tears wet against his chest
I hear his heart beat
We never miss a step
And I know his voice is deep and I know his shoulders are wide
As we revolve in circles held
with sacred warmth and pressure
He holds me very tight
And I remember love
We waltz alone
About the endless stage
The woods are very wild around us
In the woods other monsters may be found
But to this one I belong
So memory has to be
In the feelings that are it’s meat
The music may not be real
But musicians do suffer so to feel
And I remember sound
I wake into another dream flying
Upon the back of a crane
The night is clear the stars are there
His wings lift up and down
Then they are steady
Gliding on the back of the air
I know his bones are fragile
I know his beak is long
But in our flight together
We learn as we fly along
In the midnight sky in the clouds even in the scattered snow
We surf as we are whispered here and there we go
And I remember birth
Falling to the earth
The dark and frothy sea
Becomes a home to me
My bulky body glides the currents of warm and cold
And against my mothers scaly side
I hear her naming me
And with sacred warmth and pleasure
I hear her talk to me then far away answer
Another whales call in our family
And they say beings must suffer to remember
Every grief they would choose to forget
I will hold what I learned
This wild and peaceful night
I will hold in my bones in my bones
And never be hungry again
Leaving in the past what was lost to be learned
So In the future and the present
We need never forget
Who and where we are is timeless
Too beautiful to ever regret
