I Was A Stupid Know-It-All

Oh, how I long for yesterdays, to be a youthful lad again;
To never make the mistakes I made, replete with my current ken!
I would have graduated college, maybe at Summa Cum Laude;
Scintillated in Med School, my parents both applaud!
.
Then on to Internship and Residency, a brilliant Neurosurgeon I’d become;
With hospitals throughout America, offering me tidy sums!
I’d select one most advantageous, to the future I had planned;
Only then would I think about the woman, that would ever hold my hand!
.
Now I sob for what I squandered, eloped as just a teen;
Thinking that I knew it all, the smartest ever seen!
When young, sometimes the road forks, and we choose the perfect route;
Unfortunately, I took the wrong one, and far too late, did I find out!
.
.
The fork that I chose
Will forever haunt my Soul
Failure of my youth

Hello Larry...
Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?
Could make me think...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...

Â
Dear sparrowsong,
In defense of myself, at the end of our second grade year, they gave every one of us in the city the same IQ test. The Principal called my mother to say that I had the highest IQ in the city! I guess even as a youngster, it went to my head and I became "A stupid know-it-all". It would take me decades to realize that instead of knowing everything, I had a lot to learn.
Thank you for your brilliant quip "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?", to which I must reply, "yes" now, but in my early years, probably not with the common sense of a kindergartener.
Peace and love,
Larry xxx
No regrets, Larry, life's too short, just lessons learned.
Great work x
Dear Being Me,
I used to be able to live with my past mistakes, but life has thrown tremendous adversity to my beloved Linda and me. So with no control over my sorrow, I look back on what could have been.
Peace and love,
Larry xxx
I'm sorry to hear that, Larry. You and Linda always seemed to have been made for one another. You both deserve to be happy x
Dear Tina,
We will survive these adversities as one. Like we always have done. Thank you so much for caring..
Peace and love,
Larry xxx
Great write Larry...I.reckon most of us have more than a few regrets x
Dear Lady Marion,
To be sure, I am far from alone of those who rue choices they have made. Thank you for caring,
Peace and love,
Larry xxx
If only we knew the ''ifs" in life... oh, Larry we just don't know whatÂ
could have been. But we know what it is now and we embrace the now.
Very good verse.  BÂ
Dear Bernadette,
Yes, we have no choice but to "Embrace the now", hopefully, able to supersede the "what could have been".
Peace and love,
Larry xxx
