Poem -

i was there

I was when you were born that is why I am your mother I was there the windmill stopped rotating, when you stand up and fall, when you were trying to talk I was there   I was there when you get got your first syringe when your birth mark turn brow like the cheek lace and swirling on your parted lips like gold spills on your eyes   I there when you got your first teeth the day you turned smonths the day you spilled yohtgurt on my face the day when you slap me we when you first got angry I was there on your first day at school    the day you got the certificate of an achievement

i was there when you went to the states for 2 months when i died you were there at my funeral helping the elders to hold my coffin you were there when my sister chose a tombstone for me     by boitumelo mphahlele
