Ickle Iguana ?

Ickle Iguana ?

Ickle Iguana wanted to be seen she was fed up of the boringness of being that emerald green
So she stumbled on a pot of paint and out of the blue jumping in head-first she climbed out a golden hue

But that garnet of gold perfection wasn’t to her satisfaction and on a bright and balmy day she turned herself to grey
Well everyone ignored her drab shade of grey and that totally displeased her I really have to say

So it was back to the drawing board this little Lizard had to strike a chord
On a Sunday she sat sunbathing shading her head and changed to a creative, crimson red
Her top-notch was still a grotesque grey when this clever creature felt dismay

But finally and at last Iguana was colourfast
She found some pretty painted pencils and covered herself in stripey stencilsΒ
Green, yellow pink and blue with black, turquouise and orange too

Iguana’s dreams was delightful
tho the other reptiles thought her frightful
But she was feeling content and extremely happy within
In her long streamline multicoloured skin

I read the poem two ways, one as a lizard the other as a person with a disability. When you are different as the changing lizard, you wonder if you'll be accepted. I feel like a lizard most of the time, hoping my colors will last for a little bit longer. Good poem Jill. I really like your narrative style.Β
