Idealist

Idealist

I think
I was
21
When the
light bulb
turned on
In my
head
Enlightening
Me
to thinking
that my
generation
Had all
The answers
Of how
to change
the world

We were
Invincible

At 24
Crawling
In
rice paddies
Holding
A M16 A2
my perfect
World
Unconquerable
Dreams
became
Crashing
down
Through
Staring
Directly
Into
The eyes
Of
Evil

It is
Easy
To
Believe
In
A
Wizard of Oz
When
Your
Reference
Point
Comes
From
A narrow
lens
of
Zero
experience

At 53
I prefer
realism
over
fantasy
as I
have
tasted
the
cost
of
ignorance.....

Being Me

Oh Greg! I think the young adult everywhere has all the answers. And they grow up. Or don't. The path of life takes us all in different directions until they meet up as one in the very end. It is the sights we see and the experiences we are dealt with along the journey that shape us. I can understand, from your journey"s path why realism is your thing. Witnessing what you have and being a part of events will broaden your horizons to beyond stretching point.
I know what a nasty place this world can be... Or rather the people in it... By watching the news. But I can choose to do that and switch off if I want. You could never do that as you were IN the situation. So yes I can see why you have the view point you do.

I personally love fantasy because I love stories. I find stories to be an escape from the normal humdrum of things. I walk among the trees and imagine all sorts of things. To feel the spirits of the forest, or, sea, or mountain sets the heart and mind on all sorts of quests. I love a quest.

You have written a piece that gets your reader thinking, Greg. And that is always a good thing x
