If I Should Die Before I Wake

If I should die
Before I wake,
The Lord shall find
No soul to take.
For my poor soul
Already gone,
It's life and purpose
Long withdrawn.
You see I gave it
To a man,
Who took it
In his heavy hands.
With which I thought
He'd clasp in prayer,
But used them both
To strip and tear.
My poor soul lay
There on the floor,
I had that one
I have no more.
I watched as he
Clenched up his fist,
With his sharp tongue
His prayers did twist.
This man I loved
So very much,
Proved to have
No gentle touch.
I wish I'd die
Before I wake,
So that I'd have
A soul to take.
Perhaps it could've
Been some use,
If Lord had taken it
Before the abuse.
