Poem -

If I were a Palestinian

If I were in the Gaza Strip,
If I were a Palestinian,
I would know
That my days are numbered,
There are no fatal flaws or
Shakespearean traitors,
but real murderers in uniform,
Cowardly choosing their victims
Amongst children,
children waking up in the morning,
sleeping in their cot,
chattering in the playground,
walking home.
If I were in the Gaza Strip,
In the Jabalia refugee camps,
I would be amongst the dead,
buried in the rubble
swimming in memories of a day of freedom,
My flesh wouldn't be  more
than particles of dust,
my neighbours would not rest in peace.
If I were in the Gaza Strip,
If I were a Palestinian,
I would also know
That the day is coming,
we belong,
we are ready,
