If I were in charge

If I were in charge

If I were in charge of the world,
I’d cancel mushrooms,
cold winters,
and homework.
I’d even cancel Covid-19.

If I were in charge of the world,
There would be warm oceans,
an easier way to get strong,
and free food of any kind at school.
You would even get anything you asked for.

If I were in charge of the world,
you wouldn’t have diets,
you wouldn’t have early bedtimes,
and you wouldn’t have mean siblings,
or, “You can’t have that!”
You wouldn’t even have to wait to be 19 to buy lottery tickets.

If I were in charge of the world, I would make everything easier to remember.
And a person who forgets things,
and sometimes doesn’t listen,
would still be allowed to be in charge of the world.
