Lest we forget

Thankful, glorified, and brave are the words that are said about the soldiers who fought the war
Those stories that are told over and over
The ones you can never forget
You and I won’t what it was like and all we can do is imagine
Imagine the guns and bombs
The death and the destruction how every soldier missed their beloved family
If enemies were more powerful or if they were weaker
The thought that went through their heads, we’ll never win
They thought that moment will never come
Some had hope and were persevering for their family
But then the moment came and it was a victory
The country got news of winning the war
Everyone was overjoyed to get the news that the one they loved was coming home.
The few soldiers left, still alive were relieved and glad,
But some are sorrowful and felt alone
Some were in pain and in regret of the choice they had made
Back home all the families were wondering and questioning
Whether the one they love is coming back or if this is the end
Those people who wished they had said they were sorry before the one they loved left
But it was too late there was no going back
They can’t change the way things happened, but all they can do is weep and mourn
Until the bus arrives with the one they thought would never come back
Lest we forget those who died for us
Who fought and tried to win
Who never gave up and kept on fighting
I never thought this is what would happen, but it did and I can’t change that
I wish the was another way, but there isn’t
I can’t change this, neither can you
But we have to try and prevent this from happening again in the future

War is a terrible, terrible thing. I watched Darkest Hour last night... watching that and reading this leaves me praying there will be an end to war one day...sooner rather than later x
