If Only

If Only

If only I had known before
That this was my last chance
That the sea raging beyond the shore
In my head was waiting to burst.

If only they would believe me now
That I am completely sane,
Give me a chance to speak the vow
That would save us all.

If only I was a little stronger,
Able to tune them out.
Forget that they trust me no longer,
Judged me at my worst.

If only I had known before
That I was stronger than I thought,
There was no need to abhor
My very soul; I heard the call.

However,

If only it were easier to save a life
When the world comes at it with a knife.
