If Only.

If only.
Two words that are commonly used.
To the extent were these two words are abused.
We say them when we’re feeling sad.
And when something in life happens to us that is bad.
If only.
I would have knelt and prayed.
And to my saviour my homage payed.
But i went through life on the devils side.
And into oblivion my soul did slide.
If only.
I would have listened.
I know my life now would have glistened.
Now it’s dark and cold and damp.
In front of me there is no shining heavenly lamp.
If only.
Two words i use no more.
In my vocabulary i no longer store.
I walked through life’s path my own way.
Now on my bed of nails i must lay.
