I'm Coming Home

Thirty One years ago I left my hometown for love,
Let go of my love ones, career- to lead a life that I aspire,
Now, ensconced in a place I've never ever dreamed of,
The thrill of wind, land, and sea are mine entire.
Writing about it brings back real childhood memories :
of home-made ' torta', street games, smiles - all genuine.
Reminisce the days in the '80's at the Treasury,
Dine and wine with peers till nine, never cross the line.
Coming home to my impeccable Asian pedigree,
Family and friends ready to a Sunday Soiree,
In convivial mood- dancing, eating, and drinking all together,
Singing in a high key, sounds like a celebrity,
Vying to be the Queen or king of a weekly karaoke.
The town is enterprising and welcoming;
hypnotising in the tender gruffness of the mountains,
But the river I knew, now stressed and waning,
Its murmuring sound akin to dreary, gripping stories.
Everything has changed; I feel I don't belong there anymore,
Maybe because I've been gone for too long.
Still love to go there, the town I have never left,
Because they are in my body and soul and I am at rest.

This is such a powerful write..... speaking to the culture shock apparent when reminiscing of such a separation as 'time' is apt to reveal to a writer!!.....ALL STARS!!... well conceived and BEAUTIFULLY delivered dear poet sister!!..... LOVE and ROCKETS!!.....T xo ?☀✴♥✳???
Hi Tony, thanks!!
Yes, the reverse cultural shock makes one think that it can never be like before...
we can't create a perfect world really,,

My Dear Leah,
I return to my City of Yesteryear
One I've always held so very dear
Memories of the joys I found
Dear friends that ever me surround
.
Now for years, I have been away
It feels so different on this day
But it ever stays so very whole
For it lives eternal in my Soul
Love,
Larry xxx
