In Nightmares...

In Nightmares...

In nightmares, I crawl
around on my hands and knees,
and try to find light,
that is buried under floorboards.
Bitter winds creak through
the cracks of broken psyches.
Quick fix solutions
cannot heal the heart's disease
We've fallen far from
Grace since Eden.
What we call progress is plagued
by vain-glorious schemes
and certain viruses which
cannot yet be named.
The dawn pokes its bloodied head
through Time's windows.
Its light is stark and white like
a puzzling, abstract
painting. Solitude descends
like a dark angel.
O we can never exit
life's labyrinthine trials.
The last flowers of longing:
our only claim on
consciousness in bankrupt times.
