Poem -

In the blink of an eye

He sits staring melancholy
The worn hollow in the sofa
That is opposite his chair
His love of his life was lying there

Though he had no inclination
Bella was terminally ill
She wasn’t long for this earth
Why wasn’t she sat there still ?

The pair were childhood sweethearts
That was a life time ago
Many offspring with grandchildren
A close knit family you know

Last night they were as always
Sat calmly watching the news
Bella suddenly closed her eyes
It was like a blowing of a fuse

Her Richard immediately went to her aid
He tried to revive her for so long
But when the paramedics came
It was too late, sadly she was gone

Only a fragment of his imagination
& The sweetest of memories
Is all he has left of his everlasting company

Richard had always imagined
It would be his wife left alone
How wrong was his presumption
If only he had known

Her character was truly special
So full of serenity so pure
Unregrettably she had an aneurysm
Of which there was no cure

“Oh how will I carry on”
He says to his angel in the skies
This desolate man is crumbled
Floods of tears rain from his eyes

No one does ever prepare us
For the loss of a spouse
One is tormented by sheer grief
Abandoned solitary in the house

Literally one minute had passed by
Without warning Bella was gone
She was the ‘Apple of his eye’
