Poem -

IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY

MY SLEEP WAS DELUGED
WITH DREAMS OF YOU
REACHING OUT TO ME,
WHILE FALLING
IN A SWIRLING MOTION
TO CLOUDS BENEATH.

YOUR EYES WERE CRYING
FOR THE SALVATION
OF YOUR SOUL,
BUT THERE WERE NO TEARS,
AND YOU NEVER UTTERED A WORD.

AND THERE WE WERE,
IN THE BACKDROP OF A VAST UNIVERSE,
UNINHABITED, STARLESS,
AS THE MOON SLEPT
IN A BLANKET OF DARKNESS,
STILL I SEE YOUR FACE.

THE EARTH WAS DISSOLVED,
HUMANITY WERE EXTINGUISHED,
AND SO WE SLOWLY DRIFTED,
JUST A HANDS BREATH AWAY
FROM THE HUMAN TOUCH,
IN AN ETERNITY OF HOPELESSNESS.

DREAMS THAT HAUNTED ME
WHILE I SLEPT
IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY.

WILFORD BARKER.
