Inequality

We accepted, acknowledged, apologised too
for the crimes of our ancestors past.
Done all that we can to erase the divide
for a future united at last.
But now it just feels like it wasn't enough,
just tell me, what more do you need?
The jump from equality isn't that far
before it risks turning to greed.
Why is your voice more important than mine?
Does MY life not matter as much?
Or do you just cling to your racism card
for fear of rejecting your crutch?
Was it I locked you up in my ancestors ships?
Did I keep you tied up like a dog?
Did I starve you or cut you or beat you with chains?
Was I cause for your prayers to your god?
There's no way to change what has happened before.
The echoes of history live on.
But how can we build a harmonious life
if you blame us for what they did wrong?
Equality only exists in our dreams
while you still use our forebears stick,
to beat us for things that are buried and gone,
and in truth it is making me sick!
We all have our worth in our different skins
and inside we're exactly the same.
So please drop the shackles that hinder our chance?
Then together we'll re-write the game.
