Daddy Dearest

I truly tried this time.

Daddy Dearest

Well once again it’s Father’s Day
So guess I just have this to say….

Thank you dad for all you’ve done
You helped to shape who I’ve become,
For putting up with all my crap
For teaching me to shut my trap
For staying calm while I ran wild
You must have thought “God help this child”!
And then, when I was really bad
You charmed the police with all you had
Convinced them I was good at heart
Deserving of a brand new start.
  Fortunately that phase passed
And I, it seems, grew up at last
No more bickers, no more fights
Except perhaps on piss up nights.
I fell in love with, several times
Resulting in those two blue lines
And settled with my growing brood
All was well, life was good.
At least for us it seemed that way
But when we came to France to play
The four, or sometimes five of us
Would stress you out and make you cuss
At sticky fingers and grubby toes
An ever running, snotty nose
Constant calls of “Grandpa look!”
As kids appeared from every nook
Devouring each morsel found
No matter it was on the ground
But ‘real’ food served at dinner time
Set them off and made them whine
I knew it drove you crazy mad
As I tended to each fad
But we all know that when alone
You spoilt them rotten to the bone…..

I look at just how far we’ve come
And thank you dad for all you’ve done.
