Inner Demons

~Dark Shadows beckon
 Calling insidiously
 Whispering temptations
 The shadow lurks
 in the background
 Overwhelming me

 The darkness does not
 let go easily
 Once entrapped
 Hope seems lost
 Corruption and deceit
 Embrace my soul

 Unreachable in
 The darkest of caverns
 Buried in secret

 This darkness contradicts
 Reality with fantasy
 Confusing myself with
 Illusions of what is right or wrong

 Unable to escape this hell
 Succumbed to the inner demon
 I try to pull myself together
 Yet all I do is fall backwards
