Instinctive Murderers

He called in today
Flopped in a chair
I could tell he weren't right
Jeez, that blank vacant stare
I made coffee and questioned
What troubled him so
He looked up too sadlyÂ
Said t'was pointless you know?
Said he'd noticed the spiders
On his own in the nights
How they'd freeze in his presence
To terrified mites yet kill
Their own prey without mercy
Or thought, instinctive murderers
Just as if they'd been taught
And so it goes on
Right on down through the chain
The suffering the suffering again
And again, the screams and the
Torturing so minutely heard
Said t'was pointless you know
To be brought here to earth
Said each species was huntedÂ
By right of its birth
He'd cried then, right sobbed
Said that no thing had worth
He told me his broke soul
Had figured it outÂ
Said that humans were prey too
When the god was about
