It's always been you

Life doesn't give us many chances to be happy
Amongst the heartache, the hurt and the years
Happiness is found hidden deep down somewhere 
For us it was always there through the years.

You have made your mistakes and I've made mine
Alot of them I deeply regret
But for which I must still be grateful for
It brought to the place I found next

For years there was something missing
Looked for in the wrong places and ways
Now I have found what was missing
I won't let go for the rest of my days

The past doesn't matter we don't live there
Let's be honest it's not a good place to be
I don't care about your mistakes I made mine
The past was what it was meant to be

We are not the people we used to be
A lot has changed as we both know
We can only be who we are now
The future is what matters so

But the one thing the past has taught me
Is that you have always been there
I lost something so precious
Too busy pretending not to care

I found my safe place, my home
It lies within your heart and your soul
And from this moment onwards
I promise me not part of my heart but the whole 

Some people think home is a place
I used to think that for a while
But a home is wherever your heart longs to be
Mine was hidden in plain sight all the while

I've always ran when I've been scared
The biggest mistake was to run from you
I know now where I belong
