Poem -

it's okay.

i'm not okay, and that's okay.
i have depression and i'm not okay, and that's okay.
my brain doesn't produce enough serotonin and i'm not okay, but that's okay.

it's okay because i refuse to give up.
i refuse to succumb to the sadness.
i refuse to let sadness be all that i am.
i refuse to cry and not be heard.

i'm done hiding it.
i'm not okay, and that's okay.
that's okay, because i'm trying.
i'm trying, and sometimes it feels like i'm dying, but i'm trying.

and that's okay.

The rolling repetition; particularly of the word 'okay' in both positive and negative contexts: is what drives this simply written and cleverly structured poem.
The shift of tone and emphasis in the second stanza is well handled and varies the piece very well.

And Lorna's right; your attitude is heartening and a "breath of fresh air" here.
It's better than okay...it's really very good!

Welcome to Cosmofunnel.
