Jerusalem

Jerusalem

And were your heart lifted to the clouds
So that freedom was within your reach
Thy shepherd’s ghost shadow shrouds
As ancient fires life’s lessons teach

And were God’s battles thy own untold
Armour bloodied in wars of Kings
Gallant men on tall horses bold
Voices toward the gallow sings

Jerusalem, O Jerusalem thy golden light
Shed upon pilgrims young and old
Touched thy soldier’s endless might
Who marched through winter’s callous cold

And who shall wake the sleeping dead
In time for Spring’s mighty wake
Shall look towards the nation’s stead
As times shadow cast on God’s lake

Jerusalem thy light upon great walls
The Lords golden angels heaven calls
