Johnny Went Away

I knew this young Boy, from many years ago
He was just a little thing, maybe five or six years old
He was a vibrant little Boy, with an imagination
that overflowed
He said his name was Johnny, and he lived
on down the road
He told stories of his Mommy and Daddy
His Mommy was a beautiful lady, and
his Father was a handsome man, and
they would come to get him soon
He loved to dance with the Fireflies,
in the twilight
I could hear the echo's of his laughter, thru
my window, as I listened with delight
He climbed Apple trees during the day
Yes, this child was filled with light
Then suddenly, the lightness started to dim away
His eyes lost their mischief, and he stopped
coming out to play
I often wondered what happened to that little
Boy Johnny, but I saw him still from time to time,
not the same child , just the body, not the same mind
One day I called over to him, Johnny is that you
But when I looked into his eyes, I finally knew the truth
He whispered Johnny doesn't live here anymore,
His Mommy and Daddy took him away
They are living in a far off, dark place
You can call me Skipper, but I don't have time to play
I'm not allowed to talk to strangers, please just stay away
That was the end of Johnny, hidden inside this
child called Skipper
