John's Birthday

Dedicated to John Brown (1970-2019) who would've turned 50 years old today.

John's Birthday

When we met during the Fall of 1979, we became friends.
But last year he ran out of luck and his life came to an end.
A short time later, we learned that we were related.
When I learned that he died, it was something I hated.
When John died from drugs, it wasn't cool.
We met at Bean Station Elementary School.
Several years later, he pinched a girl's butt and she slapped his face.
She wasn't going to take that from him, she put him in his place.
John was only nine when we met and he had long hair even back then.
It's a damn shame that he didn't learn that drug users never win.
