Just Brother, The Horses and Me

I remember all those years
Going to the barn
Saddle up and move out
Free in the wind
Laying under the pecan trees
Having fun - sharing laughs
Leaving what is past
All the things I hold precious
Has always come to me free
Given by the Lord above
I loved to ride bareback
Mocassins on my feet
Wind blowing in my face
Free as the breeze
Blowing around me
Those days are gone
No way to do it again
Might spoil it if I did
Memories - the freedom we had
Close us two
Barely in school
Riding our horses through
Me and brother made two
I used to think
I wish I was an Indian
Living long ago
Seeing sunshine even through the dew
On our horses riding free
Just Brother, the horses and me
I miss you brother
I'll see you in heaven soon
Then we will be free again
Just Brother and me!

Losing a sibling, or any family member we dearly love for that matter, is sometimes a difficult loss to overcome, Terry. When they go, a piece of us and who we are goes with them into the vapid void beyond.
I like to think our own heaven—that paradise we will one day live in eternally—will be partly of our own making. I would also like to believe your brother is there, riding his treasured horse into a glorious sunset.
Who knows? Perhaps he's doing just that...

I agree. One of my closest friends has a small Arabian horse farm. I went for a visit and planned it so I wouldn't be there when one of her mares was due to have her first foal cause sometimes they will stop labor in front of a stranger. Well, she came early and I watched the birth with the stallion daddy and two other mares. The stallion Daddy's eyes were as big as saucers. As soon as the foals head popped out and Sharon broke the sack daddy screamed the loudest neigh of greeting. It was something to see. A few hours later I got out of bed and went to sit in the pasture to watch the baby making it's first attempt at running. When she saw me she came straight for me and nibbled on my nose. Got a picture of first human contact! I didn't know colts had no teeth. Never really thought about it. But she nibbled my nose for sometime with her little gums as sweet as a baby's breath. It was a God sent experience.. Take Care. Love, Terry Kay
