JUST WATCHING

JUST WATCHING

Drifting used to mean
Highways with your thumb out
Now they say it’s sliding sideways
I can see that

They said he had “Jake leg”
Came from drinking bad whiskey
Sat outside Donald’s drug store
Most all Saturdays, I saw that

I think folks used to chew a lot more gum
Or maybe they were sloppy where they threw it
Used to be all over the sidewalks
I saw that

I was taught innocent til proven guilty
Now it’s innocent until accused
It’s easier than proving
I can see that

Used to be good and bad came in black and white
Guilt or innocence judged fairly
Now it’s depends on who you are
I can see that

The world doesn’t change because of us
It’s in spite of us this world evolves
We search our navels for the truth
Instead of opening our eyes
I can see that

We turn our backs on the one true God
Decide we know what’s best
Change the answers distort the truth
I can’t see that
