The Keeper

I trek through the forest and wait for dusk
And the creatures the night will awaken
I stand in the clearing and feel the hush
The Keeper of the lost and forsaken
I feel the flight of the night time raptors
Touch my skin with the current they create
May they guide me tonight, silent mentors
On this inward journey I watch and wait
Darkness envelopes the glen where I'm led
I'm wrapped in it's depth like an ancient kilt
'Til my world reduces to just the threads
Every sense sharpened and acutely felt
And the hearts beating near me synchronize
A cadence that lassos the wild in mine
They circle around both timid and wise
I raise my palms up in a peaceful sign
Giving them comfort I pocket their tears
And promise to guard the forest within
Holding their sorrow calming their fears
I'm the Keeper of feather, fur and fin

Jenny! This poem is really magical. The Mother Goddess…The Keeper in tune and sync with all the creatures of the forest…protective and loving…and diligently vigilant. Excellent write!

aww Val, thanks for such enthusiasm for my write! I feel very self conscious/ low confidence about my art and prose, so your kind words are so appreciated!
