Knowledge's secret

Knowledge's secret

I climb these stairs in pain,

Every step in a year in memory lane,

When I reach my room in the present I find it wrapped tight in misery and confusion,

See it was the bright future which was the illusion,

No wonder I want to cry,

Cry,

Cry like a baby,

For every tear wept is a crime,

The innocents stolen from an infant’s ignorant bliss,

You ask β€œbut what is there to miss?”,

As in this society we praise and seek knowledge,

Believing power lies behind each truth,

Not predicting that every fact found is an inch closer to the edge,

Nudge nudge nudge,

A teacher from behind,

Shove shove,

The internet unrestricted unkind,

Tackle,

A believed friend now foe

You ask me why? How? What now?

As my foundation dissolves beneath my feet

But no yelp or expression of surprise contorts my face,

It was never there,

My realisation so powerful it shattered my delusion,

Now like water beneath the cracked ice covered surface the truth invades my lungs,

Replacing the hopefull air I once breathed I find it insufficient,

So I hand my body over oblivion

hoping it can break my fall
