Lasting Evermore

Lasting Evermore

I take your hand in mine
Packed earth beneath each toe
An onward-stretching line
The road on which we go

Free from every load
Free but for our core
Welcome to the road
Of lasting evermore

The farther that we walk
The farther that we draw
From times of deadly talk
Of people full of flaw

Now a glance behind
Shows, getting ever small
Those who cannot find
Us after our fall

Free from every load
Free but for our core
Welcome to the road
Of lasting nevermore

In places marked by time
No longer are we found
But scraps of our lifetime
Are buried underground

We set out on the path
It’s too late to backtrack
And only by bloodbath
We’d get our loved ones back

In this open cell
I turn and give you your
Welcome to this hell
Of lasting evermore
