Lessons I've Fled

Lessons I've Fled

Reminded me,
she did with glee,
of who I wanted
to truly be.

She, like many
relished it seemed
my bedraggled
journey toward
what I dreamed.

Errors made
that many miss
simply by
walking far
from the abyss.

So many have learned
from so many others
one can profit
evading these druthers.

So she laughs
when I
think I can fly
wings I've shed
lessons I've fled,
yet I continue to try.

She will never know,
nor will those
she follows,
my passionate need
to possess my
own tomorrows.

I cannot be,
so much of "we"
that I've truly lost
what has
made me free.

Free to fall
the pain of it all,
yet somehow
rising to a
deep inner call.

I shall carry on
while looking high
and learn to fly
like no one else,
only I.
