LET ME BE

I stretch high into the sky
I look over your town
So why cut me down?

What did i ever do to you?
I feel pain too
After all  i live and breath
I give you the oxygen you need
I just want to live and feed

But no you wont let be
Because all you see is pound notes
Strip me bare to make the hull of a boat
Or maybe a table and some posh chairs
Do you think its really fair?

Ive lived here looking over this town
For a hundred years
Seen many changes
And different faces
Seen my brothers and sisters slaughtered
How would you feel if that was your daughter

What do you see when you look at me?
Wood and bark, but that’s only part of me
I have roots that stretch out wide
Which i grow with so much pride
So please let me be
Just let me be a tree

Broken

Lost
Fearful, afraid
Trees sway, brace,
catching the breeze, owls
toot and hoot...

Blood drips from salt encrusted rock
