LET ME OUT

I lay in amniotic fluidÂ
swimming for nine monthsÂ
attached by a life line
Which keeps my tummy fullÂ
With all my daily nutrientsÂ
Given from my mum  Â
On the ultrasound
 you might see me frowningÂ
sometimes I raise a hand
and give a cheeky waveÂ
just letting you know I’m still hereÂ
I’m being very braveÂ
It’s time to let me outÂ
so upside down I turnÂ
my  head against the cervixÂ
I see the light I yearn
Being pushed now
Body squeezed real tight Â
Like a melon through a strawÂ
my whole body moves forwardÂ
towards an open doorÂ
A sudden rush followsÂ
As my water dissipates
Heart beat rises slightly
As  cant breath no more
Hurry up motherÂ
Get me through that door  Â
pressure now buildingÂ
just around my headÂ
bright lights now blindingÂ
my first sight is her bedÂ
Feel like I am flyingÂ
as I’m whisked through the airÂ
then wrapped in somethingÂ
soft and warm
feels like some oneÂ
really cares Â
In  some one’s arms nowÂ
My vision very blurredÂ
Here’s your son I heardÂ
Guess she is my motherÂ
The connection is so strongÂ
I raise my tiny handÂ
And explore my brand new worldÂ
place it on my mother’s cheek
feels wet and salty
as mother starts to leakÂ
placed on breast to suckleÂ
it tastes a little warmÂ
and dribbles down my small formÂ
to leave the warmth and solitudeÂ
to come into this madding worldÂ
we’re everything is surrealÂ
but now at least I feel I belong
to a world that i have been given
Â
