Let them Run Free

Let them Run Free

They are free from hinder.

Wild mustangs charge across the valley in a full canter.

Their mane and tails wave in the air with

eyes so  bright and nostrils that flare.

They are in perfect unison as they rise over a hill.

Their movement shifts at will.

Powerful with exquisite form

they boldly roam.

Brought here hundreds of years ago by another civilization

they bore upon their backs many generations.

No longer are they a beast of burden

but their future is uncertain.

If only people understood that their spirits belong to the land.

They should continue to be free from mans’ hand.

They should remain untouched.

They've given us so much.

Hasn’t mankind put upon them enough?

I loved the movie The Black Stallion waaaaay back in 1979  (when I was 15).  I went with my mother and sister -  my sister loves horses and owns one today.

My father owned a 1966 Ford Mustang -  thank you Spanish Conquistadors for bringing over the horse - not to happy about the raping and genocide that followed.....

Helping preserve them is a service in analogy to freedom of travel.  Nice piece - deserves a nomination for sure.
