LIFE GOES ON

LIFE GOES ON

She sits upon the staircase

Staring at her phone

Messaging and calling

But she only gets the tone

“Please leave your name and number

I’ll ring you back real soon!”

Where has ‘Mr Right’ gone now

He’s playing his old tune

How could she ever trust him

He’d played this game too long

Played her like a fiddle

Sang the same old boring song

But her heart was oh so wanting

Couldn’t help but love him so

And he knew this with a passion

She’d never tell him “go!”

So he carried on regardless

Didn’t care that she was hurt

He gave her pickings here and there

With an attitude so curt

But she couldn’t help herself

She’d never had much pride

Vying for attention

To mask the hurt inside

What was this woman thinking?

She’d never find esteem

In living with this playboy

Who liked to live the 'Hefner' dream

But the phone she keeps on ringing

Waits to hear that tone again

Why does she act so foolish?

Knows it’s just a case of when

When he’ll dump her for another

Feel so useless and so scared

He’ll pick her faults and put her down

She’s always felt compared

This has gone on far too long

Must find a way out of this ditch

Stop acting like a fairy

Turn this girl into a witch

Revenge was on the cards

She’d held it in too long

Lived life by insecurities

Was demeaning and so wrong

So she jumped up off the stairs

With a vigour and a verve

And she grabbed all of his clothing

His pride and joy; what a nerve!!

Laid the clothes out on the table

Stroked the richness of the cloth

Cut out holes beyond repair

Like the workings of a moth!

Her therapy now finished

She stood back; admired her work

Yards of shredded suits

She’d finished with this jerk!

There was no going back

The threads were binned and gone

Bagged up with the trash outside

Now her ‘life’ could carry on ...
