Life Story

A lonely soul was travelling along the road of life,
Happy in himself, he had no need for Mistress or wife,
But in his heart, a broken dream, haunting in his sleep,
Something hidden behind the smile, a secret he couldn’t keep,
He needed to find that true “One”, to take some warmth from he,
He had tried before, but could not wrap his arms around memory,
He knew that people’s life was short, so to waste it was a crime,
Especially his, like a candle flame, he didn’t have much time,
Then around the corner came a lady, a beautiful shining light,
He decided he wanted to be with her, morning, noon and night,
They spent their time together and grew closer day by day,
That gorgeous smile, and glowing heart, so precious in every way,
He loved her body, he loved her mind, her soft and tender lips,
They walked for miles hand in hand, speaking through fingertips,
The years rolled by, two hearts entwined, they laughed, they loved, they kissed,
Then one winter walk when he saw her breath cut shadows in the mist,
Was the one defining moment, he knew he’d finally found the “one”,
With a smile, the secret caught up with him, once there, he now was gone,
As she laid the flowers, she read the words, written for all to see,
“If I could build a stairway to heaven, I would bring you back to me”,
And in her eyes, no tears or pain, just happiness and pride,
They had taken on the world as one and both enjoyed the ride,
And when she laid her head to sleep, she heard him whisper, then,
She never woke, just kept on dreaming, they were together once again,
So it’s a simple message, from deep within, written simply on a wall,
Emotive and so powerful, but I am here to tell you all,
It’s there to question reasoning, but what’s in my tale is true,
Maybe it IS about the story, but also a happy ending too.
