Life Through Her

Life Through Her

She was told to be quiet,Β
To learn how to cook,
Stay where she belongs.
To place restrictions,
in an abyss of possibility.Β
And when she was muted-
She was a respected lady.Β
Because there isn't much debate,
When there isn't much said.Β

She was told that God made her different-
That he made men stronger.
That the difference between her and a man,
Was divine creation, not man’s own fixation.

What people never saw was the latter-
That woman had just as much strength-
That her intelligence flowed eloquently.
That her opinions mattered just as much,
And her voice was strong and heard.
That when they placed her in a box,
They gave her the tools to make her house.

They really never saw the strength,
β€œThey” were ignorant and defiant.
Their double standard never kept her muted,Β
For rebellion, she became better suited.Β
