Lightning Crashes

Lightning crashes
through the barrier of my mind
the rumblings of thunder
fade into the distance
my thoughts
spinning every which way
fading into silence
and the pain
all that's left
accompanies me home
I am alone in this pierced shell
and all that was once me
like a distant warped memory.
I will struggle on
through never ending years
hopeless at times
but at last
gaining strength
glimpses of myself
begin to return
20 years
hanging on by the thinnest thread
but I am here
stronger than before
and now
if God wills
I will continue.
the destruction of my past
continuing to heal
until I am fully myself.
