Like herded sheep

Screaming out at this worn out soul
Is a stern voice within my cautious head
As it doubts my bodies capability
Advising me to rest, sit down instead
Tho do I pay any heed to my better judgement ?
No I fail to listen to my thought
So like a bedraggled cat walking on hot embers
I follow on like herded sheep so fraught
Climbing each sore footstep up an incline
We trudge with every hiker’s good intent
My fellow walker’s are half my age,
Neither are they stooped nor bent
My battled body is crying with defeat
Yet this foolish pride will not give in
Forcing my weakened legs to soldier on
Thru silenced persecuted pains of sin
On & on I inch along
Will this sheer climbing ever stop?
Surely we must have reached the summit
Can I actually make it to the top?
At last I hear a screech of excitement
A yell of delight from the leader above
I shall mask my relief with a casual sigh
Lying like this was a labour of love
At long last we have achieved our mission
Our goal is worth the aches & pain
We all take in the awe inspiring vision
Before we descend back down again

They say it’s the journey not the destination .. love it jill .. and I love “ advising me to rest, sit down instead” I have a lyric it goes “I felt like falling over but just kept falling down” lol I love it when minds think alike sometimes and the same thing can be said with differs words .. I guess that’s whats so wonderfull about poetry..Â
