Little one

I could hear the heart beat from your tiny heart as you laid upon my shoulder. 
Eyes closed in a somber, you were wrapped in my embrace. 
Even though not mine you brought me a happiness only a mother could know. 
The innocents you had was calming and I knew I would do anything in this world to protect you. 
You had no idea what was to come or what evil world you were growing up in. 
You meant more to me than I ever thought you did and I know now that I will never let anything hurt you or put you in harm’s way. 
  
Rest little one for you should appreciate your younger years until you face what the big world possesses.
