Living in a Lost World
We idle in actions, stand by as the world self destructs from within
the cries for help fall upon deaf ears as we turn a blind eye from them
so much madness and destruction consume our daily activities
the horror, the massacres the selfish demise on our hearts sit heavily
the news these days, no more feel good stories to report
the terror and evilness, overwhelms our relaxation
outweighing our mortal fibers, our vision it distorts
our awareness is in constant elevation
our comfort zone, our safety and security are replaced by worries and fear
looking over both shoulders, triple locking our doors and staying in
hoping that if we just ignore the signs all the destruction will somehow disappear
illusions of grandeur give false hopes and insecurities
ignorance imbedded in our minds distort us even as we sleep
we use to check the weather to see if its a good day for travel
now we check the terror alerts and the news hour by hour
the chances we take just for a moment of joy and celebration
could very well be the last time we laugh for destruction has no reservation
long gone are the days of carefree and simple bliss
when summer walks on the beach at night ended with holding hands and a kiss
our smiles slowly fade away and our anger now controls the thought process
sometimes it seems to be too much to ponder, sometimes it's too much to digest

Hi Stephen,
Gosh, my thoughts too! How we enjoyed the finest years mankind has ever known, in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. Then, slowly but surely the world started its change. Now, we have been catapulted into its' insanity. We live in constant fear. We tread lightly every step. We pine for what was. We weep for what is. A wonderful write, Stephen, my poetic Brother.
Peace and Love,
xox Larry
Thank you Larry Its true the world is not what it once was and things all but lost its as if we cling to uncertainty and the unknown scares us just much as our darkest nightmares... Thank your critiquing my work I appreciate it.
