Living in the Suburbs

I built a gazebo in my back yard
plugged in the mosquito killer
drank beers and read pulp fiction
felt I had my own piece of the world
to enjoy in the summertime,
surrounded by sleeping brick houses
till the neighbours came outside
turned up their music loud, enough
to make the walls of my gazebo shake
then I was stuck in an elevator
with drunk obnoxious people
ignoring me in a different language;
reminding that I lived in the suberbs

Hey Chris oh how I remember living in the suburbs of kids and obnoxious neighbors. I think we all have lived there at some point in our life . I remember the summertime and had some mischievous fun . Cheers on a great write. Your friend rock
Sister Cherie, yes living in the suberbs is convenient and all, but can be a pain....it used to be a dream to move out here; and I do have great neighbours; now....but I am jealous of your country living; over here living in the country is way cheaper, depends on where though, you have to be self sufficient as well; commuting is a pain in Toronto; especially in winter....you would be a terrific neighbour, by the way; unless there is something we don t know about you, lol; kidding....thanks for reading this, sis....cheers
Hey Rock, I've been pretty lucky, overall, lived in the apartments for a long time, then bought a house with my uncle and mom, at 24; lived in the burbs since...the summertime was fun when the kids were younger; had a spat or two with the neighbour, lol...hey ain't it always summertime in your parts, bud? thanks for checking this out; and making a comment....peace
I live in the suburbs and found this write interesting to say the least !!! :)
Love the way you put poetry together ! Always enjoy your work.
Best wishes to you !
hey Richard, best wishes fellow 'surburbinite' yes it does get interesting at times out here; not sure if you listen to Rush; I like some of their stuff, but one song in particular I really like is Subdivisions; obviously about living in the suburbs, a good tune....hey I once posted a poem on here about my street; I came out my car after work, and just looked around and described the first things I saw; garage doors, cars, flower pots, infant trees, manicured lawns, pavements; I wrote it down with a crayon inside my garage... lol you still reading? it is weird where poetry comes from, my friend....I'm a very lazy writer; will only write when I have nothing better to do....cheers pal;
Just write when you can !!! I know it can get very hectic living in suburbia ! It isn't the stroll those inner city dwellers think it is !!! :)
Wishing you all the best as always.
Take care my friend. ( It's a 'jungle' out there ! :) )
