Lolita

I admire you Lolita
For the cunning ways you plotted,
You used your innocence and freshness
And you got just what you wanted.
There's something beautiful about your affair
Though aloud I would never often admit,
I know it's wrong and sick
And yet when watching you I don't see it as that one bit.
Your golden hair in braidsÂ
A gum bubble pressing from your lips,
You jumped into the old mans car
And took a forbidden trip.
Wrapped around your finger
The old man cried and plead,
I find it almost empowering how such a young Lolita
Could bring the old man to his knees.Â
He took your virginity
He tarnished your virginal whites,
According to the state dear girl
He abused your human rights.
But you knew what to say and how to act
And so you had your way,
Then you found your real place in life left Lolita in the past
And the old man in dismay.Â
You were just a child Lolita
Yet some see you as a seductress or demon,
I think you were simply both the apple and the snake
If he was in the garden of Eden.
Yes the context of your story
Is wrong and frowned upon,
But I, Lolita, I simply laugh
And cheer your clever ways on.
Shame on the old man is what I say
For he should have known better,
Even after all those yearsÂ
He came crawling after your letter.
You were just a child Lolita
And he was an old man,
And though you are both dead and gone
Your story stays alive with this book here in my hands.

There's a clean and elegant simplicity to your style of poetry. You distil your subject down to its basic elements before applying your poetic mind to teasing them out.
What is particularly interesting about this poem is that it's addressed to Lolita, the character, rather than the reader...which immediately lets the reader see her through your eyes and makes it easier to share your sympathetic view of her.
And the line...
...is a masterstroke of inventive writing!
Excellent!!

Thankyou for your comment, it's gratefully received! I absolutely love the story off Lolita and I think there are many other aspects and perceptions that could be explored which is what I love about it! I'm glad you liked that specific line as I really wanted to get that line, if nothing else, across! Thanks again :-)
