Long Road To Nowhere(Part II- Asteroids)

I remember not having a care in the world,
Father arrested, Mother thought to be dead.
It was just us three, my brothers and I.
As a boy of four or five, I do remember this.
There it stood about seven feet tall,
In the basement of this foster home we lived.
Up against a sea of white as its backdrop,
The answer to all our pain, ASTEROIDS.
All to small to reach, a chair needed,
Taking turns, smiles all around.
How relevant this game was to our lives,
I now very well, understand.
Our lives spinning out of control,
As the spaceship in this arcade game.
Asteroids representing the current problems,
This past 24 hours has quickly become.
Parents as the weapon that shields us,
Now lost, fending for ourselves.
In a foreign land, one knows as Reno,
There we awaited, entertained and amused,
Till we saw her.
Older brother broke down in disbelief, started crying.
He was the only one, believing she was dead.
My younger brother and I to young to understand,
But knew she was our mother, ran to her.
I don't remember much about those days,
But I'll always remember ASTEROIDS.
From Wyoming to Nevada, this journey was long.
Victims we were, in the endless struggle of love and loss.
So in the end, all I can say is this,
In darkness there is always light,
In light, darkness always resides.
