Long winter's night

Vampires are out. The night is ice.
This long winter's night
Hasn't rested me quite.
I must write
But about what I can't think.
Just that I've used up the horse
I've hoped will carry me
Like the Lady out of my reach.
A beach not far away,
Waves crashing,
Moon blackened and cinders hide my view.
It doesn't come easily
Escaping the hope someone might
Rescue you.
Outside trees make a sort of white
Noise.
They're a suburban menace
Disturbing me from my trance.
It's not enough to understand you're a man.
It's how far back in words
You wish to go.
Why not say I'm an animal?
It's not enough if you're a woman.
The world demands more than
There's likely to give.
But the vampires outside
Stir in the dead of night.
So I reside
To giving life my best.

Pretty damn magnificent poetry, I can always get the perfect emotions from each line, I would like to throw this at you dear Rory......
when there is no light around us we must begin to think and believe maybe we are the light that is around the dark.
Superb, I cannot choose a favourite line or stanza but the first one is definitely up there. 🌹 Ps wonderful title
