Poem -

Lost

'The one most like me',
Words uttered with a child-like smile.
Little does he know we could never be more different.
Lost in a world where bond strengthens and justifies everything.
Looking at the face so deluded and warped by the years of change and age I spotted it,
His first failure to recognise children grow up, move, test boundaries and pull away from beliefs.
With each word he has severed our bond and allowed the truth to seep out into adult understanding.
Yet still I nod with all the sorrow in my heart.
For what good would my illumination of truths do?
I know already what was lost to us years ago can no longer be retrieved.
So I bite down the realisation and nod twice more.
