Lost Legacies Of The Storytellers

I remember so well when I was a lad, we children would sit and be told;
Tales of family events from the past, our legacies so very old!
Passed on to us by Uncles and Aunts, our parents and Grandparents too;
We’d listen in awe to their stories of yore, as we, their progeny grew!
.
But one by one, they started to pass, our storytellers began to wane;
Funerals and tears for each one we lost, longevities’ ne’erending bane!
Our last one left just two months ago, telling tales right up to her end;
A victim of deadly COVID-19, to Heaven, eternity spend!
.
Now that leaves us to carry on, retelling our Trees history;
But unlike us, who were eager to learn, it’s an indifferent progeny!
For cell phones, Facebook, and texts are the rage, the past is boring and trite;
So with our generation, the legacies die, a saddest eternal respite!
.
.
The stories of yore
Will soon be lost forever
Our legacies fate

Hi Larry. I used to love hearing about past events in our family's history that happened before I was born. I know the kids of today are more into tech and social media and celebrity, but I do believe that there is a part of them that does like to listen about family history. I know my lot do. They sometimes don't seem interested and I think it goes in one ear and straight out the other. But then, suddenly, they will ask or mention something about our family's past... And I know they had listened after all. Keep on relaying those stories and hope. Its all we can do x
My Dear Tina,
I am so sorry for the really late response on your comment. Things have been difficult here. I want to thank you so much for your wonderful words. They are so meaningful. I really appreciate them.
All my love,
Larry xxx
Wow yay in sweet coincidence my newest poem resonates and laments the loss of the olden traditions and respect of old folk. Your poem is awesome and expressed in a wonderful way. Kudos for this rhyming reminder and appreciation of our storyteller granparents.Â
Plz do check mine out, your poem is ready as a comment to it.
