LOVE

LOVE

You brought me to my knees,
A love that can’t be bought or faked
A love that doesn’t quit or break
But swallows whole and
Forgets the world.

You made that,
The ache, the burn,
The art of love.
The butterflies and blades that
Flutter and fly and mean to kill.

You brought me to my knees,
Because I still want you
While the pieces of me fall away.
Because love is a hot blade
That cuts me to pieces easy to chew.

All of myself offered as sacrifice,
Every bone and drop of blood.
The chapters of my skin
I begged you to read now burn
So that none may get so close.

You brought me to my knees
Until my love was a surrender,
Until love was too much of not enough
Until love was your heart over mine
Until I forced myself to stand back up.
