Love and Death

Just a boy with a gas can.
No one noticed as he walked with it in hand.
He was the girls best friend.
He had so much love to send.
His smile was perfect when he smirked.
He was 15 when he first started work.
Perfect kid all around.
Sweetest redhead in town.
She loved him too much to give in.
She said you're my best friend.
His hair orange and dark and so unique.
Couldn't tell he could sing by the way he would speak.
His sneakers were muddy and stained.
The night the sky cried when it rained.
They found him in the shed by the gas can.
Now all she ever wonders is if she would have held his hand.
He froze in time and so did the memory they shared.
She never got to realize why she cared.
The way that she loved that kid back then.
So for time always hold close to your friends.

My friend was 15 when he huffed propane and passed away about 15 years ago. I still think about ways things might have been different. I like to honor his memory and pass his thought on. Never let anyone huff. It kills instantly. Thank you.
